An Illinois Engineering Leader Explores the Future of AI at Texas A&M

What: Join fellow Houston Illini and members of the Texas A&M community as Illinois’ Dr. Youssef M. A. Hashash delivers Texas A&M’s prestigious 2026 Buchanan Lecture, exploring the rapidly expanding role of artificial intelligence in geotechnical engineering. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of a distinguished University of Illinois faculty member while connecting with fellow alumni and engineering professionals.

Featured Lecture: Dr. Hashash will present “A New Era of Empiricism: The Role of AI in Geotechnical Engineering with Selected Applications.” He is the Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering and Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2022.

Honor Lecture: The program will also feature Dr. Rodolfo Sancio, Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer and Operations Vice President at Houston-based Geosyntec Consultants, presenting “A Discussion on the Geotechnical Engineering State of the Practice.”

When: Friday, October 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow the lectures.
