CALLING ALL NEW ORLEANS & HOUSTON UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS ALUM!
The New Orleans and the Houston Illini Clubs are jointly hosting an opportunity to see the New Orleans Mardi Gras' Krewe du Vieux Parade which begins Saturday, Feb 16 at 6:30 pm. This event is open to ALL Illinois alumni and guests.
Time: Saturday, February 16. Meet up with Dan and other Illini at around 6:30pm in the French Quarter on Royal between Toulouse and St. Peter on “Lake” side of the street. Dan has chosen this location as it’s not too far from the edge of the French Quarter and is near the end of the parade route. Consequently, it is unclear when the parade will be passing, but possibly as late as 7:30 pm or possibly 8 pm. Expect it to be crowded! Check this map link to see the route.
Parking: This is the hard part! Parking in the French Quarter is always difficult, but for this parade will be much worse than normal. Dan suggests you park: 1) somewhere in New Orleans’ Central Business District then walk to the French Quarter, or;
2) somewhere in Uptown or MidCity, then take the appropriate streetcar the walking.

RSVP: By Wednesday, February 13 RSVP with Dan Checkman, Houston & New Orleans Alumni Club member, email@example.com. This is simply to provide Dan an idea of how many Illini and guests to expect.
1) The day after this activity, i.e. February 17th, will include a tour of the WWII Museum. Click here for more information.
2) Regarding accommodations Dan has never had an issue getting a cheap room on Priceline for the Krewe du Vieux weekend. He has previously scored rooms at the Sheraton, Intercontinental, and Hilton for under $90 for that weekend. New Orleans is such a big convention city that he doesn’t anticipate it being hard to find something.
