A very special event for University of Illinois' alumni is planned on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. World-famous baritone, and Illinois School of Music Professor Nathan Gunn, will share an evening of food, drink and music, and talk with local alumni about the newly created Lyric Theater of Illinois. As part of this wonderful event, Nathan will treat attendees to some songs that demonstrate the breadth of repertoire being taught in the program. This is a rare opportunity to see Nathan thanks to him being in town for the Houston Grand Opera's production of “Sweeney Todd”. Due to high interest in event that extends beyond our club, all members, and selected non-members may join this event by paying through the link found below.

The Lyric Theater of Illinois was created as a vision of Nathan and his wife, Julie, who set out to create a “comprehensive program embracing a broad continuum of opera and musical theater to reflect the artistic demands of the 21st-century musical stage, on which performers must exhibit the highest standards of singing, acting and movement.” Together with their extensive performance and teaching experiences, they launched the program in the spring of 2013. Still in its first year, Lyric Theater of Illinois has attracted new faculty members from the field of musical theatre to Illinois’ already outstanding vocal faculty, and is presenting a season of three productions this academic year, “L’Elisir d’Amour”, “The Merry Widow”, and “Into the Woods”.

The event is being generously hosted and underwriten by Illinois alumni, Joel and Anna Catalano, at their Sugar Land home. As such, the entire cost for this wonderful evening of entertainment, $50 per person, will will be donated to the Lyric Theater of Illinois! The event is open to all Illinois graduates and their guests. Attendance to this very special event will be limited.
