Join DaCamera's free JAM concerts at Discovery Green on Friday, 5/16, with Jason Moran’s Fats Waller Dance Party with Meshell Ndegeocello!

Bring your dancing shoes for the fourth DaCamera JAM free concert at Discovery Green on Friday, May 16th!  Illinois' Alum Bob Morgan, as series "curator" and emcee will also be the club's event organizer, so please greet him.

In a collaboration with renowned bassist and vocalist Meshell Ndegeocello, Jason Moran pays tribute to the one and only Fats Waller, the influential stride pianist, composer and singer best known for his songs Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Honeysuckle Rose. Incorporating “rhythms coming out of 1960s-and-beyond dance music: Motown, house, hip-hop,” the New York Times reported. Discovery Green and Da Camera present this Houston premiere, a raucous party with an open dance floor and lots of fun. Opening set by the jazz combo from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Jason Moran is a Houston native, graduate of the High School for Performing and Visual Arts. He has been named a MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and is the Jazz Artistic Adviser for the Kennedy Center for the Arts. “A startlingly gifted pianist with a relentless thirst for experimentation.” -- The Los Angeles Times “The most provocative thinker in current jazz.” -- Rolling Stone.

Concert time 7:30 PM.  Best parking is directly beneath Discovery Green, entrance across street from Geo. R. Brown Convention Center ($ 12).
